Here’s the report that rocked the Edmonton area… “An Expose on the Appliances Industry”
“What Everybody Ought To Know
About Shopping For Appliances In Edmonton”
6 Shocking Reasons Why the Competition Doesn’t Want You To Know About Us!
Our Promise To You…
After you read this entire web page, you will know more about the appliance world than 87% of the salespeople out there trying to “fast talk” you into buying their appliances… Guaranteed!
We see it every day… it’s a huge dilemma for appliance shoppers.
Did you know you can buy your appliances from over 27 different places in Edmonton? And all of these appliance stores are shouting out the same thing… “We have quality, service and selection.”
So what makes us so different? Why should you listen to us? And why should you buy your appliances from us?
I’m going to expose for you 6 of the appliance industry’s most closely guarded, darkest secrets that will definitely make you think twice before you decide who you’re going to spend your hard earned money with.
6 Of The Most Closely Guarded Secrets Why
The Competition Hopes You Never Hear About Us
# 1 Superior Wholesale Buying Power
Everybody thinks that because we are a smaller “independent” appliance store that we wouldn’t be able to buy appliances at the same price as the big box stores… This is simple not true.
You see we belong to a huge buying group made up of independently owned stores in North America.
There are hundreds and hundreds of these independent appliance stores in this buying group and our combined buying power matches and sometimes beats the big box stores for us getting lower prices.
When you combine this with reason number #2 below, it makes for an unbeatable price on your next appliance purchase from us.
# 2 It Costs Us Much Less To Run Our Store
Here’s how we maintain the lowest overhead of any appliance store in Edmonton.
The owner of our store, Alex has been a really sharp cookie when it comes to business. He insisted on investing the profits of the business… back into the business early on. This in turn helped him pay off our 12,000 square foot showroom and warehouse facility in 8 years.
Interest charges are a huge cost of doing business for any company. Now that our building has been paid off for over 20 years, we don’t have massive interests charges that we would have to “build into the price” of every appliance we sold.
One more thing, if you visit our showroom, you may notice we have a “low ceiling.” This is very ironic as a low ceiling in a commercial building makes for a very low overhead. Lower heating and air conditioning costs, lower maintenance, etc.
We have Non-Commissioned staff. Shoppers have no idea how much a commissioned salesperson adds to the cost of their appliances.
In fact this is so important, that Reason #3 is completely dedicated to this subject.
And of course Alex continues to run his business in a lean, efficient manner that ensures we can pass on the savings to our customers.
# 3 Non-Commissioned, Knowledgeable Staff That are Non-Pushy and Courteous
You’ll notice I didn’t use the term “Sales Staff”, there’s a reason for it.
We have 3 main players down at Appliances Unlimited. The first is Alex, he’s the “Head Honcho” of the operation, the owner, The “Grand Poobah.” The second is Mikey, that’s Alex’s right hand man… or the guy who takes all the flak if things don’t go right.
Both Alex and Mike are former appliance service technicians…
Now, just think about that for a moment.
Do you think these two guys might know just a little bit more about appliances than your average smooth talking, slicked tongued appliance salesperson who is only in the appliance business this week because he heard somewhere that “That’s Where The Money’s At”?
They sure do, and they love educating their prospective customers on the best choices for appliances.
Alex and Mike are True dyed in the wool “Appliances Guys.” Appliances is the only thing these two characters have ever done in their career. You can’t find anybody more experienced, more knowledgeable in the Edmonton area than these two fellows.
And, oh yes, let’s not forget Randy.
Randy has been in this appliance business since they were selling washboards… well almost. He’s seen everything in this industry as well.
Even though Randy is not a former technician, it’s hard to find someone who is more intuitive about appliances, and he’s got a lot of helpful advice to share with his customers.
All together these 3 amigos make up one heck of a team, you would be very hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable group of true “Appliance Guys” anywhere in Edmonton… or western Canada for that matter.
Here’s The Most Important, Most Overlooked Reason
Why You Should Buy Your Appliances From Us
# 4 We Service What We Sell
Let me ask you a question: Would you buy a car from an auto dealership that doesn’t have their own service department?
It sounds kind of strange doesn’t it? A car dealership without a service department?… hmmm.
Yet, almost all the “big boys” in the appliance industry refuse to have anything to do with an appliance after it’s been sold and sent out the door.
They don’t want to touch that appliance with a ten foot pole, and they don’t want to deal with you either… their customer who spent all their hard earned money with them.
Why? Because to them, it’s a headache, a necessary evil, it’s a break even scenario on their balance sheet at best.
But the #1 reason they don’t want to deal with you after they have made the sale is this…
There Is Absolutely Minimal Profit
In Appliance Warranty Service
So, when you find an appliance store that has their own service department, they truly want to take care of you and your appliances. They really are committed to you, the customer.
Now, listen to this next section very carefully, I am going to reveal to you some of the dirtiest secrets of the Appliance Service industry, that not one in a thousand customers know about… much to their detriment.
And here’s some great news for you: I will show you how to protect yourself from these big corporate shenanigans, and make sure you get the customer service and consumer protection that you deserve.
And just for the record, I’m sure you’ve figured out by now that we do maintain our own service department for this exact reason… so we can take care of our own customers who buy their appliances from our us.
So here in a nutshell is how the shocking world of warranty service works in the appliance industry.
When your appliance breaks down during the warranty period, you simply phone the manufactures toll free 1-800 number. The person on the other end takes your name, address, phone number, etc and then some details of the appliance that is causing the problem.
Your warranty service call is then dispatched to a network of appliance technicians that are working in the Edmonton area.
Now here’s the kicker…
The Amount of Money The Manufacturer Pays The Technician
To Complete The Warranty Service Call On Your Appliance Is The
“Equivalent of Minimum Wage”
When your warranty service call gets dispatched to one of these local warranty servicemen, he will read that service request and determine if it is “worth his while” to accept this service call.
You see, any technician worth his salt can tell with pretty good accuracy how long it will take him to diagnosis, order the parts needed and then return to repair your appliance. If he suspects that this service call is not a “money maker” he can refuse your warranty service call with a simple stroke of his computer keyboard.
And it gets better…
If he refuses your service call for this reason… or for any other reason, he does not have to contact you to tell you that he is not coming, in fact the manufacturer will not contact you as well.
But guess what? You were already promised a specific day that a technician would show up at your home when you made the original phone call to the manufacturer when you registered your broken down appliance.
There is a really good chance that you may have taken the day off work (and forfeited a days wages) just so you could meet the technician there. But instead, you wait the entire day and nobody shows up… and nobody calls you!
How would that make you feel?
We have a pretty good idea how you’re going to feel, because we witness this incredibly frustrating scenario happen over and over every single day to warranty customers who bought their appliances from some other store other than ours.
So, how do you protect yourself from this ugly scenario and get the best possible customer service available?
It’s Absolutely Imperative That You Buy
Your Appliances From A Store That Has
It’s “Own Service Department”
But wait, it gets even worse.
There is a huge difference between warranty appliance service calls and service calls that are “out of warranty.”
A service call that is out of warranty is on average twice the cost as a warranty service call. That’s actually a very fair price in the appliance industry, as I mentioned before warranty service calls pay the equivalent of minimum wage.
But here’s something interesting: Some appliance stores in Edmonton do their very best to avoid the low paying warranty calls and snap up all the highly profitable non-warranty calls instead.
They tell their customers at the point of purchase that “Yes, we have our own service department, and we’ll take good care of you.” But when you buy the appliance and you need warranty service…
They tell you that they are “booked up” and there will be a 2-3 week wait for them to get a technician to your home.
But of course they are very helpful when they direct you to phone back to the toll free, 1-800 line of the manufacturer so you can get in line for the next available technician that you hope will not refuse to do your warranty service call.
So how do we know about all these sneaky tactics that some appliance stores do?
Check this out: We do the “overflow” of practically every other appliance servicer in the Edmonton area, so we know what is going on, and we hear all the horror stories from the customers that this awful scenario is happening to.
We were absolutely shocked to hear the story of the lady who had just purchased a $27,000.00 appliance package from a very well know appliance store in town… an appliance store that has their own service department.
Get this: The day she had all her appliances delivered, the clothes washer didn’t work at all, completely kaput.
She called the appliance store hoping to get some decent treatment because after all she had just paid them $ 27 Grand for her appliances. Well, lo and behold, she was told that they were backed up for two weeks and they strongly recommended going through the manufacturer’s warranty system so that she could get faster service.
Talk about feeling let down.
We had a close, hard look at this service call and there was another strong reason that the original store did not want anything to do with this customer and her warranty service call.
I was out of town…. Stony Plain area to be exact.
It would have cost that appliance store a lot more time and money to make a special trip out to Stony Plain…
Please, Please, Please… Don’t Let
Yourself Be Caught In This Trap
We would love to tell you more about and protect you from these sneaky companies who partake in these appliance service shenanigans.
But if I did identify these culprits, their flesh eating lawyers would bog us down in litigation well into the next decade.
So how do you protect yourself from this warranty Service Trap?…
Here’s the secret…
When you are shopping for your household appliances, we already that learned that the first ideal scenario is that whoever you are considering buying from should have their own service department.
The next thing you do, is you “shop” their service department.
Let me explain… you call the store up and ask for their service department. You then pose as a customer that is requiring service to an appliance.
Now here’s the kicker, tell them you already purchased your appliances from them about 3 months ago, and before they ask you for more details, tell them “first off I just need to know the wait time for one of your technicians…”
But as I mentioned before our store is staffed by two former appliance technicians. Alex and Mike both understood how important providing warranty service and out of warranty service to their customers is critical to the customer satisfaction of an appliance store.
We understand fully that profit wise warranty service is not a profitable business model, at the best of times it’s simply a break even proposition.
But the most important reason why we do this for our customers is this…
You put your faith and trust in us when you handed over your hard earned money when you chose to buy your appliances from us. We are grateful for that and we really do appreciate your business.
And that is why we believe that we still “Owe You.” For this reason we want to look after you and your appliance during the warranty period and hopefully after the warranty period as well.
We know the most likely reason you bought from us was because we were able to get you the best price in town. But do you know what your appliance purchase has accomplished for us?
It helped grow our business just a little bit more. It helped to keep our dedicated group of employees gainfully employed.
It helped to put food on all our tables… and your support is very much appreciated.
It doesn’t matter to us that we get paid minimum wage during the warranty period to look after you and your appliance. You’ve helped to keep us in business…
So therefore, we owe it to you to take care of you… Fair enough?
Try phoning one of the big stores right after you purchase an appliance looking for a little courtesy or some service.
This is what they’ll say… “Oh, just phone the toll free number, and they will take good care of you, gotta go now, bye”… click
Yeah right, fat chance.
# 5 Free Storage of Your Appliances (For as long as you need it)
This is one of the most convenient and cost saving benefits we can offer our customers, and we totally overlooked the importance of this added service for a long time until we started hearing stories from potential customers like this…
“We paid over $10,000.00 for an appliance package and this big box store won’t even hold it for us for a couple of weeks while our builder is doing the finishing touches on our house.”
This is how the story started in the beginning…
This customer had just bought a package from a big box store of what they thought was a really good deal. But there is a delivery deadline, all they have to do is have their appliances delivered within 3 weeks.
Now, the customer just gets informed that her renovation has been delayed or their home builder can’t get the tradesmen to finish the next phase of their new home…
Sadly, the customer now has to put their appliances in a storage facility, and now with the added storage and delivery charges… That “Good Deal” doesn’t look so good anymore.
Once again, if you buy from us, we owe you the courtesy of storing your appliances for any length of time you require, at no additional cost to you.
We’ve been in business for 30 years now, and there’s one thing that still hasn’t changed… There’s a very high likelihood that you will encounter some sort of delay in your renovation or the building of your new home.
No problem, we’ve got you covered.
You see, it costs a lot of money nowadays to warehouse appliances or carry a kind of a large inventory. That is why appliance stores will simple not do this for their customers any more…
But we do.
This storage service that we provide for our customers comes in real handy when we have really strong promotions on a specific appliance package a customer is looking at.
The customer might not be ready to buy for a couple of months, but if they wait that extra couple of months, they will lose out on a 15-20% discount on a promo price.
But, that’s only half the story… You see, we’ve seen how the American dollar has gained strength over our Canadian dollar the last couple years and when that happens, the prices on the goods sold in Canada goes up. These price increases affect all manufactures based in the United States.
Some of our highest volume in sales comes right before a price increase. We print out the official price increase announcements from the manufacturer and distribute them to customers who come to our store.
So, many of our customers will take advantage of a good package price and avoid any increase by buying before the price increase deadline and having us store their appliances until their delivery date.
We want to make sure you save as much money as possible on the purchase of your appliances from us. It’s just one more item off your plate that you don’t have to deal with.
We make it easy for our customers to take advantage of great promo prices. All we need is a small deposit, this now locks in your prices. We then order your new appliances and store them until your delivery date.
The cost of your appliances is actually a lot more than the deposit you give to us when you decide to buy. But we’re okay with financing your deal, we want to make it as easy and convenient as possible when you buy your appliances from us. So by all means…
Go Ahead And Use Our
Money in The Meantime
It’s the least we can do for our customers.
We’ve been in this business 30 years now, and we know practically every new home built and every renovation undertaken has some sort of unforeseen delays. So don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
So, have we given you enough reasons why you should be putting us on your list of “must see” appliance stores?
How about I give you one more? Arguably the most important one of all…
#6 Have You Ever Wondered What Really Are The Best Appliances in the industry? The Truth May Surprise You…
Remember when I told you how Alex and Mike are former appliance technicians? Wouldn’t it be interesting to crawl inside the heads of these two characters and benefit from their years of experience to find out for yourself what really are the best choices in appliances out there?
The truth is, after over 50 years of combined service know-how, I’m talking down and dirty in the trenches servicing experience. Mike and Alex know without a shadow of a doubt…
What really are the best, most reliable appliances in the industry… These are the only appliances that they want to offer to their customers, it’s the only ones that they sell to their customers.
“After Replacing 117,517 Appliances
Over The Past 31 Years…
Here Are The Amazing Secrets
As you now know, we have our own service department and we keep accurate records of all the appliances we’ve ever serviced… and the data doesn’t lie.
When it comes to appliances our main focus is “Reliability”, without reliability your appliance isn’t much use if it’s broken down and you are not enjoying the convenience of using it.
We just cringe every time another customer waltzes into our store waving yet another “hyped up” review of an appliance in some seemingly official report card type magazine publication.
Let me share a secret with you.
Have you ever considered going to see a movie in the theater because you saw the “trailer” and it got you all wound up and excited to see it?
But when you finally saw the movie… it was kind of a let down, it didn’t measure up to it’s hype. In fact, the movie had all it’s best scenes… in the trailer.
Well Hollywood and the appliance industry share very similar politics.
A “Well Reviewed” Appliance That Takes
3-5 Weeks To Get Repaired,
Does You Absolutely NO GOOD!”
Do you really want to have to run down to the laundry mat for the next 3-5 weeks to wash your family’s clothes?
Do you really want to have to wash your dishes by hand for the next 3-5 weeks?
Do you really want you and your family to have to eat out for the next 3-5 weeks because your stove is broken?
Do you really want 3-5 weeks of the “Huge Inconvenience” of storing your milk, food and perishables in a cooler until your fridge gets repaired?
This Is The Reality of
Choosing An Appliance Brand
That Cannot Be Properly Supported
Do you want total “peace of mind” when it comes to the purchase of your appliances?
Then it all boils down to two very simple factors…
# 1 Are parts readily available for your appliance?
# 2 Are qualified, factory trained and authorized technicians readily available in your area to service your appliance?
Trust me on this because we have learned the hard way over the years.
You see, we have stopped carrying over half a dozen brands over the years because the records from our service department show us that they are problematic appliances, prone to breaking down more frequently.
Bottom line is our customers were not happy with those appliances and it reflects negatively against our company… So, we simply dropped the brand names that were causing us this grief.
But that’s only have the story…
You see, we get approached a couple times a months by appliance manufactures to start carrying their brands on our showroom floor. We constantly flat out refuse to do so. Why? Because we service these brands and we know how unreliable they are, and down here at Appliances Unlimited, we live by one simple rule…
If The Product Can’t Be Supported
We Won’t Sell It… Period
So, let me ask you something.
How would you like to find out what really are the most reliable appliances in the industry?
How would you like to talk to a true “Appliance Guy”, who’s non-commissioned and can teach you some amazing information on what appliances will be the best fit for you and your budget?
Then why don’t you come on down and visit our showroom at 6553 – 99 Street in south Edmonton, or give us a call right now at 780-430-8587.
